This is easily one of the messages I receive most frequently and also – if you’re reading this – chances are you probably just google searched “how do I know if I’m having a spiritual awakening?” and clicked on this blog post hoping for some clarity and maybe even to feel seen and validated in your experiences.
The way movies portray spiritual awakenings leaves us with the perception that we must go through some big life altering experience in order to have a spiritual awakening and while I’ve certainly met people who have navigated a life altering experience that did lead to their spiritual awakening, I find most of my clients experiences are more similar to my own. My spiritual awakening was a series of gradual shifts over a number of years. It was so gradual I didn’t even realize it was a spiritual awakening at first.
In January 2020, I started to feel unsettled in my (at the time) very stable dream career. I felt like life was becoming too monotonous. I wasn’t excited to go to work anymore. I was drowning myself in other peoples emotions (unknowingly) – easily identifying problem after problem within my work environment – but had no actual power to impart positive change within the organization for future employees. And that really bothered me. I started to wonder how people could show up and just not care.
I remember telling my best friend at the time that it was time for me to start considering an exit plan – even if it took a few years. I was feeling the gentle pull towards entrepreneurship and feeling really excited about the future prospect of working for myself someday.
A few months later our world flipped upside down and the global pandemic basically shut down my industry overnight. I was furloughed (I didn’t even know what a ‘furlough’ was prior to this) and that was considered lucky when most of my industry was laid off. But interestingly I didn’t panic – I saw this newly created space as an opportunity. I kept myself busy with long walks, early morning workouts, personal development podcasts, book clubs, etc. A few months in, I realized I was having the same conversations over and over again with actual friends, work friends, acquaintances and wondered what else I could be doing to help people see the benefit in the white space of life.
One morning I saw one of my favorite podcasters advertising her Intro to Podcasting Course and I thought – what if I started a podcast? I told literally no one [until the first episode went live]. Most entrepreneurs start podcasts when they have an established community – I started from zero. But this decision to start was a portal.
I used the podcast as a self accountability tool. I shared what I was working though in real time, interviewed some really inspiring women, and used it basically as a personal blog. I returned to my corporate job end of 2020. Over the next couple of years I started to just follow the breadcrumbs. If something felt even remotely interesting I allowed myself to permission and space to explore.
I became a Life Coach. A few months later I left my 15-year dream career to pursue a career in tech and in May 2023 I attended a personal development retreat. This retreat was truthfully a miserable experience for me but also a catalyst for my spiritual awakening. I spent the whole retreat trying to own my identity as a life coach and it just didn’t stick – I was so out of alignment but didn’t know that at the time.
When I got back from the retreat I enrolled in a breathwork certification. One of the girls I met through the certification kept posting on her stories about her experiences with Reiki and I would find myself google searching ‘what is reiki? how does it work? when should you try reiki? what does it help with?’ In the Summer of 2023 (after doing weeks upon weeks of seemingly useless google research) I booked my first Reiki session. It was a virtual session over Zoom. I felt like I took a nap on my floor while this girl thousands of miles away did something and I woke up feeling free, vibrant, and alive. It was a surreal experience.
Over the next couple of months I booked a couple more reiki sessions and I began to realize something big – something truly profound was shifting within me. I wasn’t the same person I was before starting those sessions anymore.
I wasn’t actively seeking a coach but when my Reiki Practitioner said she was opening up a 1:1 mentorship spot I knew it was meant for me. I wasn’t seeking spiritual support but it turns out that’s exactly what I needed. That 4 month container literally changed everything for me.
In the meantime, the soul level call to leave corporate was becoming louder and louder – harder to ignore with every passing day. At the end of 2023, I had a new boss hired in over top of me that sat between myself and the c-level executive I reported to at the time. From the moment I met this person I knew something was off. Their energy affected me in a way I had never experienced. It was like everyone else was under a spell and I could see right through the veil. I knew this person had been sent by the universe or some level of higher consciousness to force me out. It was time to leave corporate – it was time to take the risk I never thought I was capable of taking.
A few weeks later, I left my corporate job, became certified in Reiki and went full time in my business that wasn’t profitable. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made and also the best decision I’ve ever made. Since then I’ve developed my skills a channel, began reading the Askashic Records and also found myself pursing a career as a professional astrologer.
This is of course a very paired down version of my story but I share because while my spiritual gifts were coming online I also felt extremely confused and isolated.
I didn’t choose this path – I wouldn’t have chosen this path for myself but IT IS what I’m meant to do in this lifetime. I was fearful to share my experiences because coming from a non-spiritual upbringing I knew It would be hard to find acceptance in my new path. But also, if you are seeing yourself in pockets of my story – know that the spiritual path will find you if it’s meant for you and there is definitely an acceptance piece to the journey that takes time.
Most of my clients realize they are having a spiritual awakening when they start to feel more open to experiences they previously felt very closed off to. I find for many of my clients reiki is that gateway. Hands on therapies have been an important part of my souls journey going back thousands of years so it makes sense that that is often what I have in common with first time clients but I’ve also seen breathwork, somatic practices, hypnosis, astrology and certain types of alternative therapies act as the gateway.
Like myself, many of my clients feel like they become obsessed with learning about energy work after a couple of one off reiki, breathwork, or similar experiences that leave them feeling so profoundly changed that they have to learn more. As they become more energetically open, the challenge becomes that without a guide or mentor in the space it’s hard to know what you don’t know. So what starts as feeling liberated in your body can quickly turn to chaos in your physical body if you don’t know how to protect your energy. Energetic Wellness isn’t a one off practice, it’s a life long practice and yet it doesn’t come with a ‘how to’ guide.
As you become more energetically open your ‘clairs’ begin to open and strengthen. This can feel really overwhelming without support. For example my strongest clairs at first were claircognizance (clear knowing) and clairsentience (clear feeling) – I would just know things or I would feel things that weren’t mine deeply in my body. I didn’t start to develop clairaudience (clear hearing) or clairvoyance (clear seeing) until much further into my spiritual awakening. In those early days I relied on spiritual guide & coach to help me understand my experiences and help provide resources to learn how to strengthen my connection with my own intuition.
For me, EFT tapping and custom individual chakra based meditations were very supportive but that won’t be the answer for everyone. Often I find that my clients who experience claircognizance early on become really fearful of how they just know information. When you have someone you can turn to that can validate that experience, you’re less likely to feel crazy and/or to try to shut it down. All that to say, if you’re experiencing energetic shifts that make you feel a little crazy – you quite literally may just be connecting with your intuition for the first time.
Another common experience I see is clients often feel really alone and isolated. Realizing that there is something more out there to be explored that is outside of the cultural, religious or vocational norms they grew up surrounded by can be hard to process. When a client begins to feel pulled to chose differently they begin to fear what happens if the people closest to them don’t understand or accept this new version of them. Which is a totally legit fear. This is exactly why its so important to have that guide or mentor to turn to in the early days.
Recently its become more and more clear that more and more people are in need of and actively seeking spiritual awakening support or just energetic support in general. I find clients either experience this around their Saturn return or between the ages of 35-42.
My 8-week private mentorship is designed to walk with you through the early confusing days of a spiritual awakening.
This isn’t a cookie cutter container because everyones needs and experiences in the early stages are so different. My goal in 8-weeks is to help you establish & steady your energetic foundation so that you become unshakeable regardless of how much chaos the external world throws your way. We do this through a combination of intentional energy work & through using your natal chart as a map. You do not need to have any interest in astrology or experience with astrology in order for this to be beneficial.
Astrology can show us so much – it can show us where we need to have courage in life, where we find success, what we came here to do, what has challenged us in life, what will challenge us over the course of the next year. It can show us the cyclical nature of life and provide an access point to see life through a new lens. This is why it’s become such a foundation practice in my own life and why it is such an integral part of the work I do with my clients.
If you resonated with parts of my story or the common experiences I see shared amongst my clients I invite you to explore if ‘Anchored’ my 8-week private coaching container feels aligned. To apply/book a free connection call (no strings attached – if it’s not the right fit I’ll help you connect you with other resources and coaches within my network that may be a better fit) click HERE.
