The first time someone mentioned Astrocartography to me – I was both curious to learn more and also skeptical that geographical locations could actually hold different energies for each of us. After a few weeks, I couldn’t contain my curiosity any longer and I decided to book a reading with the Astrocartographer my friend had booked with.
I did literally no research. I did not vet the Astrocartographer in any way. I did not ask for their qualifications or if they were using professional software. I just trusted that they were qualified.
While I left my first reading feeling excited and empowered – I also left questioning my own intuition in a lot of ways [without even realizing that was happening]. At the time, my husband and I had just moved and the reading left me questioning everything. The locations the Astrocartographer recommended didn’t resonate at all – and I felt like if I wanted to be happy I had to move somewhere I had little to no interest in.
I was so new to the Astrocartography space that I didn’t realize how much detail and nuance was missing from the conversation and how much I was trying to base big life decisions off of surface level information.
Now that I’ve taken classes on Astrocartography, I know how important it is to find a trusted Astrocartographer. Astrocartographers can help you find places to move, the place you’ll call home, the place you’ll start over, the place your business will thrive, the place your career will flourish, the place you’ll find love. They can also help you to understand why the place you’ve lived your whole life has never felt like home. Astrocartography can quite literally change your life and that’s not something to take lightly.
I do not offer Astrocartography readings for this reason. Yes, I’ve taken courses but I have not gone through a certification program. I am confident in my ability to interpret charts but limit my reach to family, close friends, and 1:1 private coaching clients because I have ways to continually update these groups as I learn new information. If you are looking to make a big life decision and you believe a reading would be supportive I recommend booking with a reader from [this Directory].
I’ve shared these tips with friends and clients and now I want to share them with you.
This is honestly a tip for working with any service provider. Always ask to see the persons credentials. We grew up in a society that encouraged blind trust – it’s normal to feel weird about asking for credentials but it is also necessary. I’ve found myself in too many situations where the charismatic sales person wasn’t actually qualified to teach what they were claiming to teach. I hate asking too but I promise as a service provider I actually appreciate when a client asks to see my credentials. I find that clients who ask to see credentials really value their own time and money and are usually dream clients to work with.
This may be a bit of an unpopular opinion and a bit of a hot take but if they are claiming to be a Professional Astrologer they should be using professional software. Two of the most popular softwares are AstroGold and Solar Fire. If you don’t know the name of the software the person provides look it up. Astro[.com] is a free website – this is what the first Astrocartographer I worked with used and it was missing a lot of really important information.
Parans are latitude lines. The point at which two lines cross – a latitude line is drawn. Not all Astrocartographers use Parans (or even know what Parans are) and they can completely change your experience on any Astrocartography line. You could live on the most supportive line – but if you’re also right on a challenging Paran – you may really struggle. If an Astrocartographer isn’t using Parans – they are missing critical information and I personally would not book with them.
Using relocated charts can also sometimes feel like a bit of a hot take. A relocated chart is determined by moving your birth chart to your current location over the location you were born. Your natal chart will always be your natal chart and for most things you should really only reference your natal chart. Relocated charts can activate a completely different story. For example, say you were born in San Diego, California and in your natal chart you have Mars in 10th house and then you decide to move to Charleston, South Carolina – Mars now relocates to your 9th house. Mars energy in the 10th house will tell a different story than Mars energy in the 9th house. You don’t need to understand the nuance of this – all you need to understand is whether that Astrocartographer uses Relocated Charts and why they do or do not use them. If they don’t see value in them, I would be skeptical.
Timing can largely inform your experience in any location. There are many timing techniques an Astrocartographer may consider – but what’s important for you as the client know is ‘do they use timing techniques to inform the reading?’ If the answer is no, I would once again recommend finding another reader.
There are plenty of things missing from this list but the point of this article is to give you a starting point. These are 5 simple things to ask – that in my opinion – any Astrocartographer should be able to confidently answer and if they can’t – do not feel bad walking away. Trust your intuition. Working with a well-trained Astrocartographer is a game changer and hiring the right Astrocartographer is something to put both time and effort into.
